August DoorSense is a technology exclusive to our smart locks that allow customers to know if their door is open, closed, locked, or unlocked via their Activity Feed. This guide provides instructions for installing DoorSense™ with the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock. There are two options for installing DoorSense™: Surface and Flush Mount.
August DoorSense- what it is and how it works?
August DoorSense is August’s exclusive sensing technology, which allows August Smart Lock users to monitor their door’s open/closed status through the August Activity Feed. With August DoorSense, you can quickly and easily determine if your door is left ajar or completely closed and locked. August provides two options for installing August DoorSense: Surface Magnet or Recessed Magnet. The surface magnet option requires no drilling or wiring and can be installed directly on the face of your door frame. The recessed magnet option requires some minimal drilling for installation but offers a more aesthetic look as it’s installed in the actual door frame itself. Both installation methods will provide reliable feedback from August DoorSense so you know when it’s time to close your door.

August Smart Lock with DoorSense- review
August’s two installation options and get started. August DoorSense is August Smart Lock’s exclusive technology that allows you to know if your door is open, closed, locked, or unlocked through the August Activity Feed. August provides two options for installing DoorSense with the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock: Surface or Mortise Mounting.
Surface Mounting requires a screwdriver and takes less time than Mortise Mounting—which requires some minor knowledge of carpentry tools. Whichever method you choose for installation will depend on the existing door hardware on your door. Once installed correctly, DoorSense™ easily pairs with your August Smart Lock to give you insight into what’s happening at your front door from anywhere in the world.
Pros and cons of the August Smart Lock with DoorSense
The August Smart Lock with DoorSense™ provides an added layer of security and convenience for your home or office. With August DoorSense, you can monitor the status of your door from anywhere via the August Activity Feed. This helps to protect your property by giving you real-time notifications when someone enters or exits your space as well as providing insights into how often doors are opened throughout the day. August DoorSense also allows you to set custom rules like auto-locking so that doors close and lock automatically after a certain amount of time or after a specific number of people have entered/exited.
However, there are some drawbacks to installing August Smart Lock with DoorSense™. For one thing, it requires more steps during installation compared to August Smart Lock without DoorSense™. August provides two options for installing DoorSense™: Surface and Mortise, both of which require drilling into your door frame or the door itself. Additionally, August Smart Lock with DoorSense™ requires an extra “bridge” device in order to connect it to the August Activity Feed. If you want to use August DoorSense but don’t have a compatible bridge device already set up, then you may need to purchase one separately.
Overall, the August Smart Lock with DoorSense™ offers enhanced security and convenience but may require more installation effort than some users are willing to invest in. Consider all of your available options before deciding on a smart lock system that best suits your needs.
